In the world of social networking sites, smart phones, tablets, and internet television…how in this multimedia society do you introduce your child to appreciate the love for reading? Simple you introduce him to a book!!! When shall we do this some might ask and the answer is below! So please keep on reading!!!
There are many types of books for many types of people. When I was in First Grade my love for reading started when after my class and still waiting for my school bus to arrive; I entered the grade school “LIBRARY!” It was so big for me at that time and kind of intimidating but I did not care. I was curious so I entered and looked at my left and saw a sign hanging that said “Nursery Section” or something like that.

I looked at the shelves and there were tons of books for pre-school
children which I did not know at that time. I grab one which I think was a “Walt Disney”series book (Fun to Read Series) featuring Goofy and started to read on the carpet and tons-of-pillow filled floor. It was a nice experience so I kept on coming back every day.

That started my love for books that I finally got my library card so that
I can borrow books all throughout elementary and high-school. I don’t remember much of the books that I borrowed or read but some of them are detective storieslike Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, stories of Uncle Remus (which was adapted by Disney and made into a film “Song of the South), The Little Golden Books series, Fairy Tales (not the Disney version please!), picture dictionaries, encyclopedia for kids, atlas and more! (Heck! I remember in High School when I’m bored I would get the American Encyclopedia and flip the pages and if something strikes my fancy I would read it!!! (GEEKOROID!!!!)

And even when I was in college or was already working; I would still buy
books from my allowance or I would have a budget for them. I bought R.L. Stine books, a juvenile horror stories for teens and other books with an adventure/ fantasy theme. (Hello Harry Potter!!!) Of course I was not just reading books I started to buy magazines as well that talks about entertainment. music, fashion, and my two all time faves NAtional Geographic and Reader's Digest!!! :)
When I got married my book reading hobby kind of declined because of some other priorities but I manage to buy books like JRR Tolkien even before they became a movie!!! (LOTR, The Hobbit and etc.) Now that I have kids well…I still read online!!! Due to the fact that my home has no more space for it!!!! Ha ha ha!!!
Now that I have kids on my own it’s time to pass on the
torch…..
